Skift Take
Brazilians, despite the slowdown in their economy, are still big spenders, and NYC is smart to micro target them with marketing, advertising and pushing for visa-free travel.
The number of Brazilians in New York should double instantly if the visa requirements for the country are waived, according to George Fertitta, president of NYC & Company, the official tourism agency for city, who visited Brazil for the second time this year.
Veja: About 770 thousand Brazilians visit NYC by the end of 2012, which is 7.2% higher than 2011, but shows slowdown compared to previous years. In 2011, there was an increase of 22% compared to 2010. Between 2005 and 2011, increasing the number of tourists was 541% - the highest in comparison to any other country.
