Indonesia amps up efforts to offer health tourism and tap into the profitable trend

Asian countries are experiencing a major boost in inbound visitors from medical and health tourism, but not all nations takes pains to accredit providers or monitor the quality of treatments.
What is called health tourism is, apparently, one of the prime motors of economic growth in Asia. And Indonesia wants a bigger slice of the action. Last week the Health Ministry and the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry in Jakarta signed an agreement to work with hospitals, private spa companies and health associations to create a program called Indonesia Wellness and Healthcare Tourism.
The number of health tourists going to Indonesia reached 600,000 this year, up from 350,000 in 2006.
