- The Rise of Independent Chinese Traveler: All these have contributed to the rise of “the new Chinese tourist”, described as under 45 years of age, accustomed to travelling and does not see a need to shop for friends. He/she also prefers customised tour packages over tour groups, with less sightseeing and more entertainment, shopping and luxury accommodation. Travelling for relaxation is also done on a regular basis.
- Chinese visitors to UK up 22% in April, from last year: Latest inbound numbers for UK show stagnation or decrease in North American and European visitors, but Asia and LatAm is rising, and China's rising among the fastest. Chart below shows how:
- Chinese students come under attack in France: France's interior minister has condemned as racist an assault on six Chinese students by drunken locals in the Bordeaux wine-producing region that left one seriously injured. The attack comes amid reports that wealthy Chinese tourists are being increasingly targeted by muggers in Paris.
- Sri Lanka aiming for 100K Chinese visitors by 2015: Sri Lanka and China had decided to cooperate vigorously in the tourism industry. 20 thousand Chinese tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2012, aiming for 100 thousand in 2015.
- Australia most friendly western country for Chinese: Chinese people regard Australia as "the most friendly country" in the West and want to travel and migrate here, according to a Chinese academic. Professor You Ji, from the University of Sydney, said Australians were not regarded as racist but "accommodating and tolerant."
