New York City Mayor Names New Head of NYC & Company Tourism Board

Dixon has some big shoes to fill, but he has the backing of a mayor who's interested in many of the same things the next generation of visitors are seeking.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that Fred Dixon will be the new chief executive of the city's official tourism and marketing organization NYC & Company. Dixon took over as interim CEO of NYC & Co following previous CEO George Fertitta, who announced his departure in December to join outgoing mayor Michael Bloomberg's consulting company. When Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Dixon's appointment, he praised the work NYC & Co. had done promoting neighborhoods outside of Manhattan. "I'm a particular fan of the 'Neighborhood by Neighborhood' program," de Blasio said, "because it showcases the outer boroughs—some people call it the 'outer boroughs.' Some of the rest of us call it 'home.'" What's ahead for Dixon? The city is on track to reach another ar
