Is Airbnb's valuation for real? We'll have to wait for it to go public to see how it would really stack up against the market caps of major hotel chains.

Airbnb, the San Francisco-based alternative accommodations platform that got its start in 2008, is worth a lot of money. About $30 billion worth according to those who have decided to invest at that valuation. Having closed its most recent funding round, which it began in February, the company added at least another $555 million in funding from 27 entities.
