Cuba is relying on an increase in Russian tourists to revive its struggling tourism sector in 2024. The Cuban ambassador in Moscow hopes for a 35% increase in visitors from Russia, which would provide much-needed economic support amidst ongoing challenges such as U.S. sanctions and a severe economic crisis. New flights from Moscow and the introduction of the MIR credit card are expected to aid this effort. In 2023, Cuba saw 2.4 million tourists, falling short of its 3.5 million target, with Canada, Cuban expatriates, and Russia being the top sources of visitors.
