What TripAdvisor CEO Kaufer tweeted about Republican Congress members holds true for the travel industry, as well: This is not the time to be silent about an issue that cuts to the core of travel and democracy in the U.S.

Both CEOs made the case for their respective causes, which would ultimately benefit not only their respective businesses and customers, but the travel industry a whole.

President Obama has enacted reforms that have cut visa wait times abroad and increased destination marketing. Policies to create a faster, more seamless entry would be the logical next step, as would releasing more money to pay customs and border control staff.

Tourism's importance to the growth of the U.S. economy can not be underestimated and it deserves greater consideration by politicians at every level -- especially the stubborn ones.

U.S. regulators are focused on the short-term goal of increasing youth employment without looking at the long-term economic benefits of attracting visitors to spend summers in the U.S. Benefits include building a positive brand abroad, attracting peers of summer workers to visit, and encouraging future trips.

Making it easier to travel U.S. is tied to the visa regime and border security, which in turn is heavily influenced by immigration reforms. Also U.S. travel orgs need more manpower to help grow them, and in turn grow jobs all around. All of this should be on the table in immigration reform debates.

UK already has enough trouble managing immigration lines at Heathrow, this will only add to the mess. And then rival politicians and rights groups are already crying discrimination and will hurt tourism as well.

Maybe someone at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement got a sneak peek at BlackBerry 10. At least the agency will wait for its arrival before making a decision on switching to iOS.
