Expedia's Add-On Advantage appears to be a new wrinkle, and HotelTonight's Today's Daily Drop is a flash sale variation that disappears within 15 minutes. Both gives hoteliers new ways to target travelers, who may find some good deals in the process.
Priceline Hotels Pro may become the next version of, or a twist on, Express Deals. Priceline shows the price up-front and identifies the handful of the hotels in the mix to give travelers additional confidence in where they might stay. But, there is enough wiggle room for the hotels to participate behind a Pro app without diminishing their brands.
You can make the argument that this acquisition will get more relevant hotel deals to consumers, but HotelTonight's acquisition of PrimaTable really is about maximizing revenue for the hotels and HotelTonight.
Getaroom is a niche player, but it is steadily growing and its unpublished rates over the phone are very appealing. Traditional online players may want to rethink their call center outsourcing and current practices.
