Few international airports have an on-airport hotel but JFK will get one in 2018. The TWA Flight Center Hotel will be located near JetBlue's Terminal 5 and it will be a nice homage to the iconic airline. TWA, that is.

It's astounding that the battle for a better airport experience in New York City has to happen one terminal at a time. But if it has to be that way, airport leaders should look to what's been done at Terminal 4 to lift the experience out of the doldrums.

New York City is taking impressive strides with its latest campaign push. Reaching out to the millions of travelers at JFK Airport is a smart, if not obvious, choice.

Simply put, the increased traffic is a healthy sign for both inbound and outbound tourism activity in the U.S.

No matter who heads the project, its construction will undoubtedly be costly complicated and long impacting travelers and airlines for seven or more years.

The true tests for the CBP kiosks at JFK and other airports will be during holiday travels, but so far, so good.
