With a very tight labor market in Singapore, especially in the ground handling and security sectors, T4's automation and self-service model makes sense.
Getting everything working well is hard enough, but beyond that airports like Changi get it right by incorporating the local culture into the ecosystem, without too many gimmicks.
As the big hub airports become destinations in themselves -- at least for long haul passengers -- airport guides need to become increasingly sophisticated. The next step would be plugging into trip itinerary and airline check-in services and apps.
Changi's has managed some astounding successes both attracting more international business to Singapore and by making its terminals places that passengers on long-haul flights aspire to transit through.
