9 Years of the New York Times’ ‘Places to Go’ List

For nearly a decade, the New York Times publishes one of the world’s most popular annual travel destination lists, inspiring travelers to choose their next destination. The following is a trend review and analysis of the destinations featured by the publication.

Each January the New York Times publishes its “Places to Go” list of travel destinations to consider in the coming year.

While dozens of other print and digital publishers vie for consumers’ attentions with their own annual travel lists, “Places to Go” is a powerful influencer in the travel-planning process. It is also an important list for tourism industry professionals, particularly destination marketers and management companies, to turn to when developing their tourism products and services in tandem with current and emerging trends.
