London Heathrow Airport Closed: What We Know So Far

Heathrow said Friday afternoon that it was on track to resume flights after a significant power outage shuttered operations.
London Heathrow Airport said Friday that it was able to safely resume flights, following a "significant power outage" that shuttered operations for much of the day.
The shutdown happened after a serious fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport.
"We’re now safely able to restart flights, prioritising repatriation and relocation of aircraft. Please do not travel to the airport unless your airline has advised you to do so," Heathrow Airport said in a statement on X.
According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, there are a total of 679 arrivals and 678 departures scheduled at Heathrow on Friday. The airport currently has 500 cancellations and 11 delays, according to flight tracking site FlightAware.
How Many Flights Are Affected?British Airways has been worst hit. The flag carrier had approximately 30 diversions as of 6 a.m. local time, and more than a dozen aircraft still in the air. The share price of IAG — its parent company — was down more than 2% as of 9:30 a.m. local time.
