Southwest Airlines has undergone a major transformation in recent years, but the company believes the those changes were overdue as it looks to generate more revenue.
Southwest Airlines has made some major changes in recent years, including implementing seat assignments and bag fees. The carrier's Chief Financial Officer, Tom Doxey, acknowledged at the Skift Aviation Forum in Fort Worth, Texas that the company should have taken more steps to generate revenue as costs have gone up.
Doxey discussed with moderator Brian Sumers, editor of the Airline Observer, Southwest's transformation, which also includes opening lounges, operating international flights, and selling extra legroom — changes Doxey said have been good for customers.
Doxey and Sumers also addressed Southwest's culture, the carrier's vast network, and its aircraft, among other topics.
