Instant booking has long been thought of as a natural progression for the metasearch sector, so it is interesting to note the cautious tone adopted by Momondo’s Chief Executive. It would be a big change and Hugo Burge is determined to make sure whatever he brings in does not confuse the consumer.

Momondo Group, the metasearch company, which he has led for 17 years, is in the process of being bought by U.S. online travel giant Priceline for $550 million. The deal, which follows Ctrip's acquisition of UK-based Skyscanner at the end of last year, shows that there remains plenty of appetite for investment in the sector.
