For companies in the sustainable travel ecosystem, extra time off for skipping flights is more than an HR perk. It could become a lever for growing demand in slow travel.

Some companies are offering extra vacation days to employees who skip flights for lower-carbon travel, a perk meant to cut climate impact and encourage “slow travel.”

Positive Planet, a consultancy advising companies on carbon measurement, net-zero strategies, and staff engagement, has piloted its “sustainable holiday leave” for about three years.

Under the policy, employees who avoid air travel receive up to two extra days of annual leave.
