Trump Administration Looks to Ramp Up Flying Taxis

Skift Take

As China makes more advances on flying taxis, the Trump administration is hoping it can speed up the U.S. effort. The biggest startups hope for a 2026 debut.

Once a longshot, flying taxis are now inching closer to the mainstream.

The Trump administration released a new framework on Wednesday to speed up the integration of flying taxis into U.S. airspace as part of a larger push to increase innovation in the aviation industry.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the administration was eager to bring flying taxis to market partly because of international competition.

“America is not the only one that's innovating. Some of our adversaries are chomping at our heels, or we're chomping at their heels,” Duffy said. “The race is on, and that adversary, for the most part, is China.”
