Lemon Tree Goes Global — But Only Where Indians Travel

Lemon Tree said it is ready to take its brand abroad, but it's sticking with Indian travelers.
“We now feel we are at a point where our brand is exportable… it has high recognition, trust and reliability for the mid to upper mid-market Indians traveling globally,” said Patu Keswani, founder and chairman of Lemon Tree Hotels at Tuesday's earnings call.
“We are only interested in capturing more and more wallet share of Indian travelers… following Indians where they go.”
Lemon Tree currently has a hotel in Dubai, two in Nepal, and one in Bhutan.
Would the brand expand more aggressively in cities like Dubai? “100%, sooner rather than later,” Keswani said.
The hotel chain will pick cities where Indians already travel. It will sell to customers it already knows. It will try to reduce the demand swings that come when you open in unfamiliar markets.
