IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Exits After December’s Meltdown

Skift Take

Two Indian airline CEO exits within a week, but where Air India Express CEO Aloke Singh's exit reads as an orderly handover, Elbers' is far more abrupt.

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers has stepped down with immediate effect, the airline announced on Tuesday, ending a three-and-a-half year tenure with the Indian carrier.

The airline said co-founder and managing director Rahul Bhatia will assume interim control of India's largest airline until a permanent successor is named.

Elbers, the former KLM chief whom Bhatia directly recruited in 2022, was handed a clear mandate from the outset to transform IndiGo from a domestic giant into a global aviation player.
