India’s expanding middle class and spending power is placing it at the center of global travel space. And hotel companies are now focusing on attracting Indians in their own country.

The lifestyle hospitality investment firm Kerten Hospitality is entering India, expecting the country to be a “cornerstone of the group's next phase of global expansion.”

Kerten, which is based in Ireland and operates 12 brands across 11 countries and 4,500 keys, is counting on its lifestyle-led strategy to attract demand. In a statement released on Tuesday, it announced that this move into India will form part of its long-term plan of “entering high-growth destinations at a time when lifestyle-led demand starts to pick up speed.”

The company, which has set up a dedicated office in India, is aiming to add 1,000 keys in the first phase of its India launch.
