Hotels are getting more people to join their loyalty programs than ever before. Now they just need to raise their engagement levels to keep them coming back — booking direct, as they'd prefer.

But will these new additions, especially the member levels, threaten to disrupt the program's more egalitarian approach to hotel loyalty? Probably not, as long as Wyndham sticks to keeping this program as simple and easy to understand as it has been since it launched last year.

Traveler demand for, and use of, Internet connection services is soaring, creating a dilemma for travel brands that must walk a precarious tightrope between charging for access and risking customer anger over unreliable free service.

Although most of the rankings fall in line with what you'd normally expect, there were a few surprises. It's also clear hotels have some work to do when it comes to their food quality, amenities, and loyalty programs.

It will probably take much more than redesigned headboards to get people to think a bit differently about Super 8, but this is a start, and we like the brand's tongue-in-cheek approach to recycling old artwork, during Frieze New York Art Week, no less.

At a time when most hotel loyalty programs are so highly coveted and promoted by hospitality companies, but also increasingly complicated in some cases, it's interesting to see how Wyndham's easy-to-understand approach is working to help attract new customers and reward them.
