Vrbo Cracks Down on Bad Hosts: 100% Penalty for Stranding Guests

Skift Take

Both Vrbo and Airbnb have been removing listings and taking other actions against malicious hosts or those who are clueless about hospitality. Vrbo's new policy should be seen in that context.

Vrbo will soon start levying 100% penalties against U.S. hosts who leave guests stranded without access to a reserved home.

The new policy starts October 1 and applies in most situations that a guest is denied access: Malicious intent, miscommunication, or "an unexpected hurdle." The fine matches the booking amount: a $500 reservation means a $500 penalty, a $5,000 booking means $5,000.

Vrbo may also temporarily suspend the property, and cancel future bookings.
