President Trump’s proposal to ban institutional investors from buying single-family homes has drawn a mixed response from vacation rental industry experts, most of whom said the practical impact would hinge on how any legislation defines both “institutional investors” and “single-family homes.”

Trump said in a social media post Wednesday that achieving the American Dream of home ownership is increasingly out of reach. “It is for that reason, and much more, that I am immediately taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying more single-family homes, and I will be calling on Congress to codify it.
