Marriott India Tells Gen Z to Clock Off on Time — and Says It’s Working

The hospitality industry has long been debating the causes of India’s poor talent retention. Marriott claims the solution lies with the companies.

Marriott’s India arm has launched a range of initiatives to try to attract Gen Z talent.

The Indian hotels sector has long been discussing the so-called “talent crunch”, with a 2024 report by the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council finding that young workers were leaving the industry due to low wages and extended hours, just as hotels were increasing their number of properties. 

However, Neeraj Govil, COO for APEC at Marriott International told Skift that the talent is there, just needs encouragement. “I find it strange that we are talking about talent crunch in an industry that we say is completely underserved in terms of the number of rooms.”
