Delta Walks Back Climate Targets

Skift Take

Delta's language shift, from "goal" to "aspiration," may sound like semantics, but it signals a broader retreat from hard climate commitments at a moment when the airline industry's 2050 net-zero pledge is already under strain.

Delta Air Lines has removed a key climate target and softened another on its website, just days after its chief sustainability officer publicly celebrated the airline's green progress.

First, the airline removed its pledge to use sustainable aviation fuel for 10% of its jet fuel by 2030.

In addition, it refers to a commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 as an "aspiration" - Delta previously called that a “goal.”
