Trump Tells Transportation Department to ‘Take a Look’ at Spirit as Bailout Talk Grows

It is unclear if the federal government would actually give Spirit a bailout. Trump signaled earlier that he thinks “maybe” the federal government should help.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Tuesday that President Donald Trump has instructed the Department of Transportation to “take a look” into Spirit Airlines, following reports that the beleaguered carrier is pitching the federal government to take an equity stake in the company.
“He's directed us to take a look. I'll have a conversation with the President later today,” Duffy said at an air traffic control modernization event at the DOT headquarters.
