The risk that funding would run out had created uncertainty for regional carriers that receive subsidies.
The Department of Transportation said Wednesday that it secured $41 million in additional funding for a program that provides subsidies for airlines to operate in communities with little to no commercial air service.
Funding for the program was originally supposed to lapse on Sunday as a result of the ongoing government shutdown. The additional funding will now allow the program to survive until at least early November.
