Atlas debuts with an Agent Mode capable of booking reservations, flights, and more, executives say.
OpenAI launched a brand-new AI web browser, ChatGPT Atlas, on Tuesday, and it has a marquee feature: an agent mode that takes actions on behalf of the user — including booking travel arrangements.
In a livestream announcement, CEO Sam Altman described Atlas as an “AI-powered web browser built around ChatGPT.” In essence, this is software that uses the natural-language chatbot as a new kind of interface for browsing the internet to simplify how users search and interact online.
But for the travel industry, the most notable feature is Agent Mode.
“In Atlas, now ChatGPT can take actions for you — it can do things,” explained Adam Fry, product lead for ChatGPT Search and ChatGPT Pulse. “So it'll actually bring up a little cursor, start clicking around when you ask it to. It can help you book reservations or flights, or even just edit a document that you're working on.”
