Spirit Airlines Gets $50 Million Lifeline Following Liquidation Rumors

The immediate access to $50 million will allow Spirit to stay afloat in the short-term. The airline's creditors are meeting Wednesday and it is widely expected that they will discuss Spirit’s third round of bankruptcy financing.

Spirit Airlines said Monday it reached an agreement with its creditors to immediately receive $50 million as part of its third draw from its debtor-in-possession financing, giving the beleaguered ultra-low-cost carrier an essential lifeline. 

Initially, the agreement provided for Spirit to receive $100 million in the third tranche of its $450 million DIP financing that was approved by a U.S. bankruptcy court judge.
