Although the U.S. has a top-10 passport ranking again, its increasingly tougher entry rules suggest a country moving against the global openness trend.

The U.S. passport ranks tenth in the latest Henley Passport Index, returning to the top 10 but still trailing 37 other countries.

It offers visa-free access to 179 destinations, one fewer than last fall, after having dropped out of the top 10 — to 12th place — for the first time in the index’s history in October.
