IndiGo Picks IATA Chief Willie Walsh for CEO

For a carrier that controls more than 60% of India's domestic air traffic, the choice of successor carries weight well beyond the boardroom. And in Walsh, the IndiGo board has reached for one of the most battle-tested names in global aviation.

InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo, on Tuesday appointed Willie Walsh as its new CEO, subject to regulatory approvals.

Walsh, currently the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), will step down from the role on July 31 and join IndiGo by August 3.

His appointment, announced via a press release, comes less than a month after the abrupt resignation of Pieter Elbers, following one of the most damaging operational crises in Indian aviation h
