Despite its size, Southwest is more capable of delivering a consistent brand and user experience -- mainly for good, but sometimes for bad -- than any other major airline in the U.S.
Airline, hotel and car rental apps are rated by users as being well below the quality of travel booking apps. That they trail the travel booking apps isn't a huge surprise, but the the size of the ground they would have to gain to catch up is fairly daunting.
Southwest is certainly on an upward trajectory and the good times keep on rolling for the airline. The fruits of its labor with the recent rebranding and seeing record profits are now reaching passengers by giving them a brand to use that they already know and love. Let's see what other airlines may follow.
Southwest Airlines emphasizes how it cares about its employees yet it chose to ignore the legacy of AirTran in designing Southwest's new "Heart" livery. It wouldn't have taken much to include AirTran, and it would have meant a lot.
JetBlue will likely be the airline adding bag fees in 2015, not Southwest. Forsaking fees for first and second check bags is still good business for Southwest.
