Delta Flexes Muscle in Renewed American Express Agreement

Co-branded deals between airlines and credit card companies have become a lot more competitive of late and when it comes to the latest pact between American Express and Delta, the airline is just loving the boost to its ancillary revenue.

Delta Air Lines and American Express last month renewed their multifaceted relationship, including for their co-branded SkyMiles credit card, and Delta president Edward Bastian bragged during the airline's fourth quarter earnings call this week that the renewal amounts to a 15 percent improvement in terms for Delta. Under the previous terms, which were less favorable to Delta than in the renewed agreement, the airline took in some $2 billion in revenue annually from the contract.
