It was never in doubt that Indians love to watch cricket. How much they're willing to spend to watch it live, is the more surprising part.
On Sunday night, Ahmedabad became one of the most expensive cities in India to spend a night in, courtesy the cricket T20 World Cup final.
India and New Zealand played the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket ground with a seating capacity of over 130,000. India won, in front of a packed house. For all the assembled spectators' jubilance, getting a room anywhere near the venue came at a price.
According to Skift's analysis, hotel rooms for Sunday night were anywhere from four to 17 times more expensive than normal for a weekend at this time of year.
Biznotel by Pride, a hotel near the Motera area where the stadium is located, was charging INR 81,000 ($877.50) per night on March 8-9. The same hotel is available this coming weekend
