Cruise Ads Pulled in UK for Misleading ‘Green’ Promises

The UK’s advertising watchdog has ruled against several travel agents for misleading “green” claims in cruise ads.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said promotions linked to MSC Cruises and Celebrity Cruises promised “eco-friendly” or “green” holidays without the evidence to back it up. The promotions were run by the online travel booking websites Cruise1st, Cruise Circle, Seascanner, and Barrhead Travel.

The ASA said ads leaned heavily on language such as “eco-friendly,” “green alternative,” or “cleanest marine fuel” without context.
