Super Bowl ads cost more than $8 million for a 30-second spot, and it appears some travel brands are taking a pass this year.
With the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks facing off at the Super Bowl this Sunday, the travel industry is getting ready to air ads and ramp up flights.
The coveted Super Bowl advertising space costs more than $8 million for a 30-second spot, according to CBS News. Expedia, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines have already shared their ads. Other travel companies are expected to announce ad campaigns later this week.
Still, it appears to be a relatively light showing for travel brands. Booking Holdings, which has run ads in past Super Bowls, is sitting out this year. Airbnb confirmed it won’t be running an ad.
Expedia: 'Going Places With Ken'Expedia on Monday debuted a Super Bowl ad, “Going Places With Ken,” that kicks off a year-long partnership with Mattel. In the U.S., the ad will run pre- and post-game, and 30-second and 20-second spots will air during the game in Canada and Mexico, respectively.
