Travelers from both Mexico and Germany are beginning to rethink potential travel to the U.S. after last month's election, according to Brand USA officials. The xenophobic tenor of the new administration is creating a global image problem for the U.S. as a travel destination.

It wasn't easy, but Brand USA finally got the reauthorization that it and much of the travel industry coveted.

There's lots of goodwill around Brand USA, but that could quickly dissipate if the marketing organization continues to take credit for others' work in an attempt to win new funding from Congress.

These Brand USA campaigns will be under great scrutiny from budget hawks in Congress, who would love to eliminate the countrywide promotional arm for U.S. tourism. The map/trip-planning idea sounds promising, but it all depends on its execution.
